Flour trucks are specialized vehicles designed for the transportation and pneumatic unloading of dry mixtures. With the increasing transportation of military equipment, there is currently a shortage of qualified truck-trailer drivers. As a result, the transportation of flour is becoming more relevant not in semi-trailers but in flour trucks mounted on truck chassis with a gross weight of 33-35 tons.
The design of flour truck bodies is largely determined by the properties of flour. Flour is a free-flowing, highly hygroscopic, and caking-prone cargo, with fine particle size depending on the milling category. It also has a relatively low density, making it more cost-effective to transport in large volumes, typically 24 cubic meters or more.
Key Features of Flour Transport Tanks:
- Tank sealing to prevent moisture absorption
- Capability for complete unloading
- Corrosion resistance of the reservoir
- Safety of materials in contact with flour
Flour transport tanks are typically made of aluminum or stainless steel with a high chromium and nickel content. In most cases, the tank has a cylindrical or V-shaped cross-section. The tanks are usually divided into multiple sections, allowing for the transportation of different grades and types of flour. Each section has a separate top hatch for loading and a conical discharge chute at the bottom.
Older and more affordable models use gravity-based loading and unloading. These models are inexpensive, but gravity unloading is too slow and does not allow for complete emptying of the tank.
Therefore, flour trucks with forced loading and unloading have become increasingly popular. These use compressors for efficient unloading. Depending on the model, the compressors may be powered by an electric motor or directly driven from the power take-off (PTO) shaft.
